Bathroom Refresh: Updating a Space with a Modern Cottage Style

Welcome to our latest home renovation project: the modern cottage bathroom update! As you can see, this bathroom had loads of potential, but it just needed a little love and attention to bring it into the 21st century. Located in a charming 1930 Tudor, this bathroom was in desperate need of an update to better suit the needs of the growing family who lived there. From outdated tile and wallpaper to cluttered cabinetry, there were plenty of changes to be made. However, with a little vision and some careful planning, we were able to transform this space into a bright and modern cottage oasis. In this blog post, we’ll take you through the before and after of this bathroom remodel and share some of our tips and tricks for updating your space. We hope you enjoy following along with us on this renovation journey!

Progress…

Since we didn’t plan on moving any plumbing or electrical, this project was planning on taking just a couple weeks. However, this 1930 home had different plans. Once we got into the walls, we found that most the electrical needed replaced due to its age, as did the sub-floor due to water damage.

This project ended up going down to studs, but this is sometimes what it takes to do things the right way. Once all the electrical and sub-flooring was repaired it was time to get to the fun stuff… the design.

The Design Elements…

For this growing family, the wanted something extremely durable for the flooring, so they opted for Luxury Vinyl Tile. This LVT has a beautiful marble look and comes in a modern 12×24″ size.

Next up, for the shower tile, we selected a beautiful Saloni Blue picket tile and accented it with a pale gray grout.
Tile is available here.

After tile, we moved on to selecting plumbing fixtures. We knew we wanted something modern, and these clients were set on a black finish. So, we landed on these fixtures by Pfister. Along with a 66″ soaking tub by Kingston Brass.

Bathtub, Shower/Tub Faucet, Vanity Faucet, Robe Hooks, Toilet Tissue Holder, Towel Ring

For the vanity, the customers opted for a single sink instead of a double to maximize counter space. This pale Paris gray vanity made for the perfect amount of color without distracting from the blue accents. See vanity here.

As a last-minute decision, the clients decide they would like to add wallpaper above the wainscotting. They selected this best-seller from Serena and Lily in shade “Sky”. This added the perfect pop of blue to compliment the stunning shower tile.
