Maximalism is the New Minimalism: Embracing Bold Design Trends

Hello everyone!

Are you tired of straight clean lines and stark, empty countertops and walls? Want that slightly cluttered, but cozy home look? Well, you’re in luck because maximalism is the new trend in home design! That’s right, it’s time to embrace bold colors, statement pieces, and eclectic decor. In this blog post, I’m going to tell you all about why minimalism is out and why maximalism is the way home design is headed.

First, let’s talk about minimalism. Minimalism was all about decluttering and keeping things simple. While this can create a calming environment for some, it can also be quite limiting. Minimalism often means that you have to get rid of things that you love or that have sentimental value… or at least you have to keep them hidden away. It can sometimes be more difficult to make your home feel cozy and inviting with minimalism, as the lack of decor and accessories can leave your home feeling somewhat cold.

On the other hand, maximalism is all about embracing color, pattern, and texture. It’s about mixing and matching different styles and eras to create a space that is unique and reflects your personality. With maximalism, you don’t have to worry about getting rid of things that you love, as everything has a place in this style. In fact, maximalism is all about layering and adding more, so the more things you have, the better!

Benefits of Maximalism

One of the benefits of maximalism is that it’s very forgiving. Unlike minimalism, where every item needs to be perfectly placed and chosen, maximalism is much more forgiving. With maximalism, you can mix and match different patterns and colors, and as long as they make you happy, you can find a way to make it work in your home. This means that you don’t have to worry about everything matching perfectly or being perfectly symmetrical. It’s a style that encourages creativity and personal expression.

Another reason to fall for maximalism is that it goes great with a popular trend in home design (that I think we are all hoping is here to stay) … vintage finds. Facebook marketplace and thrift shopping are becoming the go-to place for home shopping. It’s the perfect way to find new, unique pieces. And, this is not only great for our wallets, but it’s great for the environment too because it reduces waste.

Another great thing about maximalism is that it’s a style that is great for any room in your home. Whether it’s your living room, bedroom, or even your bathroom, it can work in any space. You can add bold wallpaper to your bathroom, mix and match different textiles in your bedroom, or add colorful art to your living room. The possibilities are truly endless!

If you’re worried that maximalism means clutter and chaos, don’t be! Maximalism is not about being messy or disorganized, it’s about having a lot of things that bring you joy. In fact, with maximalism, you can use creative storage solutions to keep your space organized and functional. You can use baskets, shelves, and even hidden storage to keep your space clutter-free while still embracing the maximalist style. By having the freedom to incorporate items that you truly love, you are making your home timeless to you. I don’t know about you, but when I have an item in my home that I truly love, I don’t care if it’s trendy or not… I will still love it!

How to Start Incorporating Maximalism

Now that you know why maximalism is the new trend in home design, it’s time to start incorporating it into your own home. Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Mix and match patterns: Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns and colors. The key is to find different patterns that stay within the same color scheme. This will help everything look eclectic, but still cohesive.
  2. Use statement pieces: Use statement pieces to add a pop of color or texture to your space. This could be a colorful rug, a bold piece of artwork, or even a unique piece of furniture.
  3. Embrace texture: Use different textures to add depth and interest to your space. This could be a cozy throw blanket against a smooth, leather sofa or a rustic, wood mantel over a glossy, painted fireplace surround.
  4. Add plants: Plants are a great way to add color and life to your space. You can use plants in different sizes and shapes to create a lush and inviting environment.
  5. Layer: Layer different textures, colors, and patterns to create a space that feels cozy and welcoming. This could be layered rugs or thick, lush curtains over bamboo shades.

Whether you want to create a space that is eclectic and bohemian, or one that is bold and glamorous, maximalism allows you to do it all.
