Hey friends!
Welcome back for another blog post! This one is all about designing a welcoming entryway that leaves a lasting impression on your guests. Your entryway sets the tone for your home, offering a glimpse into your personal style and creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Join me as we explore creative ideas and practical tips to transform your entryway into a stylish and memorable space.
Your entryway is more than just a functional space—it’s an opportunity to showcase your unique personality and make a statement. Start by considering your personal style and how you want to express it through your entryway design. Whether you lean towards modern and sleek, eclectic and vibrant, or classic and timeless, infuse elements that resonate with you.
Where to Start
Begin with the foundation of your entryway—the walls and floors. Choose a color palette that complements the overall theme of your home while setting a welcoming tone. Soft neutrals like beige or light gray can create a soothing backdrop, while bolder hues like navy or deep green add a touch of drama. Consider adding texture to the walls with wallpaper, wainscoting, or a decorative accent wall to inject personality.
I am a big fan of adding both wainscotting and wallpaper. It adds such a perfect depth to spaces that just gives all the warm and cozy vibes… and a bit of necessary drama. I am definitely planning on adding some wallpaper to my entry in the coming months.
Here is a photo of what our entryway looks like now. Remodel work was done by Heritage Builders. Check out this blog post if you want to see a few more photos of where our entryway started and how its looking now!
It is no exaggeration to say that I am obsessed with this cozy cabin entryway done by the amazing Heidi Caillier. She has such an inspiring talent for layering colors and textures. This entryway is no exception! The traditional furniture plays perfectly with the dramatic, dark blue walls. Also, that pleated lampshade and bright base add the perfect pop of color to the space.
Flooring & Lighting for Entryway
When it comes to the floor, aim for durability and style. Opt for materials like ceramic tiles or hardwood, depending on your preference. But, remember to keep in mind that with tile comes grout and we all know that keeping that clean is a process in itself. And for hardwood flooring, keep in mind that if your entry gets a lot of direct sunlight, you may have some fading to the floor stain color over time.
Another touch I love is adding entryway rugs. Don’t be afraid to add a statement rug or runner to infuse color and pattern into the space while also offering a layer of coziness and warmth.
Lighting also plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming ambiance. Explore various lighting options to find the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. A combination of natural light and artificial lighting can work wonders. If your entryway lacks windows, consider installing a statement semi-flush mount light or a series of stylish wall sconces. These not only provide adequate illumination but also serve as eye-catching focal points.
Entryway Furniture & Decor
Now, let’s move on to the furniture and decor elements that will bring your entryway to life. Begin with a practical and stylish storage solution, such as a sleek console table or a built-in shelf with hooks. This provides a designated spot for bags, and other essentials while keeping the area a little tidier. Consider incorporating a stylish mirror above the console table to both enhance the sense of space and offer a convenient spot for those last-minute hair checks.
This STUNNING entryway was done by RH Interiors for Kerry Washington’s New York apartment. I am in love with the mix of black and white tones, and also the mix of rustic and streamline finishes. It all works together so perfectly! They included several different design elements and made them work seamlessly together.
To inject personality into your entryway, showcase unique art pieces, photographs, or a gallery wall that reflects your taste and experiences. Add a touch of greenery with potted plants or fresh flowers to bring life and freshness to the space. All of which are being used to perfection in the above photo.
Consider incorporating a stylish bench or a cozy chair where guests can sit and comfortably remove their shoes.
This entry via Laura Godfrey is a beautiful example of style and function. The bench so functional, but also brings a great color contrast to the white shiplap wall. Then the gallery wall and baskets for storage tie this modern farmhouse style together perfectly. This space is a win!
Don’t forget to pay attention to all the small details that make a big impact. Decorative accents like bowls, trays, or candles will add charm and a touch of luxury. A stylish catch-all tray or basket can store everyday essentials like keys and sunglasses. It will look great while keeping your entryway organized and clutter-free. Also, try displaying books or magazines that spark conversation and reflect your personal interests.
Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of personal touches. Hang a beautifully framed family portrait or your favorite painting. This will show everyone what & who you love and set a welcoming tone for your guests as they enter your home.
